Tale of Last Night

We had a LONG night last night with Anna. Here’s a brief summary so you guys know:

5:15 went to the club. While entering, Anna “bumped” her toe on the door (or so I thought)
She’s hysterically crying, but I think it’s just a bump and it looks like she scrapped her skin so she is dropped off at the child center after getting band-aids

6:15 get removed from zumba class because she is still just very sad. We come home and inspect it and find blood all around her nail. It appears she bent her nail backwords and it’s probably just hanging on a bit.

7:30-after dinner for Paul and I and reading WebMd, we call the nurse line who advises us to go to urgent care.

7:45-8:30—we are all at urgent care (including Alex) and it takes 3 of us just to get her band-aid off (including the doctor). Dr. advises us that we should remove the nail because it’s just connected on one side. But, tells us we have to go to the ER because she has to be sedated because she’s so upset.

8:45-we arrive back home, drop off an hysterical Alex with our neighbors who try to put him to bed. Cecilia’s mom and brother do first shift, get him to bed and then Cecilia comes over once she’s home to a sleeping Alex. Bring a tired and upset little 5 year old to the ER.

We got checked in to the ER and moved to a room relatively quickly. Got moved around a LOT and eventually talked with a doctor at 10:30. He agrees we should do what the previous dr. says, without even seeing the toe. We get an Xray to make sure nothing is broken, which it isn't.

By 12, she still hasn’t even gotten an IV (which the drugs had to go through) so I call my sister to relieve our nice babysitter. The IV placement was the most difficult part. Required a lot of nurses and Paul and I to hold her down. Once she had that, we had to wait patiently to get all the team in place for the procedure. She gets a mild sedative through the IV and they decided to take out her nail. So, she will be nail-less most of the summer. This will require a lot of extra care in the next week-no swimming, soaking, etc. The procedure takes less than 10 minutes, but we had to wait a long time to make sure she reacted okay to the drugs. We are not discharged until close to 1:30 and get home by 2.

So, we’re going to love up our little Anna today. And, hopefully get lots of sleep too.

After care was just band-aids and little water exposure for a week. Once it dries up, she should be back to summer form!!
