State Fair
We went to the fair...had to go against all traditions and went on the Thursday before Labor Day weekend (when Dad was alive, we did the first Sunday and since he died we have been going opening day). Despite abandoning traditions like the cheese curds, fries and opening day we had a blast. We tried lots of new things-like mini cinis (miniature cin rolls), fried pickles and turkey sandwiches. We also encountered our first fair day with rain. We managed fine though. It sprinkled most of the day, but when it did down pour, we found shelter quickly. We had a blast at kidway on the rides with both kids. Alex tried his first roller coaster and Anna got to try more grown-up rides. I was still not brave enough for the tilt-o-whirl. Didn't want to ruin my appetite! We visited KFAN, the grandstand, had lots & lots of food and used our bargain book wherever we could (Paul is such a bargain shopper!). The kids enjoyed the little farm hands exhibit where they had to "work" through the stations to get "money" at the end to buy a treat (cereal). Lots of fun for them. They also choose to do a trampoline adventure ride versus taking home balloons. Alex didn't like it at first, but warmed up to jumping on it. Anna loved it and went super high. She's not scared of anything. We introduced Kristin to keeping stamina as we were there until 9! We didn't get to do all the animal barns, but did do the miracle of birth barn on the way out. The kids loved seeing the piglets, chicks, ducklings and the cows. After the fair, we headed up to Deer Lake for Labor Day weekend!
