Our Danish family came in Sunday night, July 9th from Green Bay to stay with us at Deer Lake for a few days. Anne-Marie was the au pair of the boys when they were young. Now, she's married to Frank and has 2 boys & a little girl of her own. We see them about every other year when they visit the US. All the Mattsons were in attendance at the lake, except Tiffany who was put on modified bed rest right before we were to leave.
After they arrived, we enjoyed a spaghetti dinner with Rhonda & Wayne and all the Staermoses. The boys have gotten so big. Christian is 15, and Mads is almost 13. Julie is a little younger than Anna and even though they didn't speak the same language, they hit it off almost immediately! We took everyone to Dairy Queen in town for dessert that night, my treat!
Rhonda & Wayne had their own activities on Monday, so it was just the Danish family & our family. Everyone headed to breakfast Monday morning, with the exception of Paul and gobbled up some good pancakes & eggs. By the time we came home from breakfast, Craig & the girls had arrived!
All the boys (Craig & Paul included) got in some boating while Anne-Marie & I tried to keep track of 5 kids all by ourselves! At one point, we lost Brooklyn...she was all the way up in the loft by herself. We had hot dog & brat lunch by the lake and then got the little kids down for a nap. Tried to get Anna, Katelyn & Julie some quiet time, but they were having too much fun. Paul, Frank, Mads & Christian went mini-golfing during the afternoon too which lowered our adult to child ratio. To keep the kids interested, we'd have dance parties...to PYT (pretty young thing, by Michael Jackson) or put on movies. By dinner time, Julie was almost falling sleep at the table! We had burgers, potatoes & corn for dinner. By the time we got all the kids to sleep, it was pretty late, but we managed to get a few rounds of dominoes in!
Tuesday, Rhonda & Wayne joined us. They made breakfast pizza for breakfast for everyone. Since it wasn't a nice day out, we decided to go walking around Taylors Falls and had pizza lunch at Schooneys. Then, I got a nice break and went to North Branch with all the Staermoses. When I was gone, Rhonda took the 2 big girls to a trip to Walmart together, underwear & all! By the time we got back, it was time for chicken dinner, with potatoes & asparagus. That night was more dominoes, after we got all the kids to sleep (again, a long process).
Wednesday, I made pancakes for breakfast and we had sloppy joes for lunch. We hung out at the cabin, had more dance parties, and Rhonda helped the girls make necklaces. That afternoon, Rhonda, the Danish family and I went mini-golfing again. We packed up when we got home and headed back home. The Staermoses were going to stay with Craig & Tiffany for a few nights & then at our house for a few nights, but since Tiffany was on bed rest they decided to stay at our house. The Danish family & our family went to Texas Road House in Coon Rapids on the way home for dinner, a favorite of theirs from a trip in Texas they did a few years ago. We headed home after that, and the Danish family were right behind us. We didn't really know before we left our house, so we had a little bit of work to get ready for them. But, it was super easy for them to be in our basement while they stayed in the cities (until Monday morning).
Thursday & Friday, Paul & I worked while the Danish family enjoyed time at Valleyfair with Craig and visiting Tiffany & Brinkley on Friday. We didn't see them much, but enjoyed the weekend with them. Saturday, we hit Albertville Mall with them and had Detello's for dinner (more dominoes too that night!). Sunday, we had lunch at the Eden Prairie mall, Anne-Marie & I shopped for a bit while the kids played and I headed home with Anna & Alex for their nap (and I had work to do). Paul, Mads & Christian went mini-golfing one more time. That night, we had Craig, Tiffany and the girls over for another spaghetti dinner. We had a lot of fun all together! In order to clean up, all the kids & all the men went to the park. After that, we had another trip to Dairy Queen. It was nice to have Tiffany over, and good for her, as the day after that she was back in the hospital with contractions & later put on full bed rest.
We had a great time with the Danish family, as always. It was tough to say good-bye, but we look forward to more visits to come, including when Christian comes for the Vikings/Packers game :)
