North Shore

We headed up to the North Shore this weekend...a tradition...for the past couple years we've joined Maren (and now Docia & Chris) for our annual trip to Maren's cabin (north of Lutsen). Our family headed up in the mini van and Maren, Docia & Chris in Maren's car. We had to take 2 cars since all of our kids & stuff take up too much room! We stopped for Dairy Queen on the way...always a treat for miss Anna "I love ice cream" Mattson (I wonder where she gets that from).
We got there very late Friday night (kids slept well in the car, past Two Harbors with the boys driving them) and settled into a cold cabin. Maren, Docia, & Chris were colder than us as their heaters didn't turn on like they were supposed to. Thankfully, Docia & Chris had a space heater.
Saturday, we headed up to Grand Marais. It was a beautiful day! We had our traditional stop at World's greatest donuts, browsed the shops and had lunch at Angry Trout cafe. Then, we headed to Cascade for a little hike, but Anna wasn't digging being in the packpack. The Mattsons saw the falls & brought the kids back to the car for a nap while the rest of the gang went for a hike. We then went to Lutsen for some alpine sliding and a short walk down to the river. Saturday night, we headed back up to Grand Marais for Sven & Ole's. Yummy! We brought the kids back for bed and played farkel. It looked like Docia was going to win, but Chris pulled off a win on the last round.
Sunday, we headed back home. We stopped at Temperance for a quick walk down to the lake. It wasn't as nice so this wasn't a very long stop for the kids. We also stopped between Two Harbors & Duluth at Scenic Cafe for lunch. Then, a long drive home with 2 tired kids. Paul & I decided to stop at his parents on the way home (didn't think we could make it without another stop, so that was a great diversion). They were gracious enough to feed us and have dinner with us and Anna loved seeing grandma & grandpa.
It was a long weekend, but a lot of fun. We love showing Anna & Alex the beautiful scenery we have so close to us. We are very blessed.
